Water Tanks
Reducing Clubhouse water usage
With the assistance of the Federal Government Community Water Grants Port Kembla Golf Club installed a 50,000 ltr water tank. Water is collected from the Clubhouse roof and stored until required.
The water is used to
Flush all the Clubhouse Toilets
Water Gardens
Clean down outside areas
Any overflow is redirected into our storage dams to irrigate the golf course.
With enough constant rainfall the tank has the potential to save up to 800,000 ltrs of water per year.
Staff also have a target to report and arrange to repair any leaking taps within 24 hours

New Irrigation System
Efficient use of water
The Club has just invested over $100,000 in a new water management system for the course. The new system enables accurate management and detailed recording of course irrigation. This system will ensure that the minimum amount of water is used on the course, while maintaining an excellent standard of playing surface.
The Club has also included drainage in the greens that are currently being renovated. This drainage directs storm water into our irrigation dams to be used at a later date. Not only is the water being recycled, golfers can return to the coure quicker after heavy rain.

Energy Efficient Lighting
Less Power = Healthier Environment
With the Assistance of Wollongong City Council Port Kembla Golf Club has replaced 30% of its lights with new energy efficient lighting. In most cases the watts required to operate each light fell by more than 50%
In addition to this several lights have been removed as analysis showed that the lights in the room were well over that required.
Staff have also been a major asset in reducing energy consumption as a policy has been implemented to turn off lights and air conditioners when rooms are not being used or they are not required.
Solar reflective film was also installed on the sky lights and that has reduced the summer heat coming through the ceiling by 80%. In turn the need to use the air conditioning in that area has also dramatally reduced.
In the past two years energy consumption has fallen by 3.25% from 07/08 and 08/09 is estimated to be a further 5% reduction.
